1). Discuss one concept in Chapter 8 that you found useful. Please explain the concept and give a personal example or personal story.
In this chapter, I found the section about checking for validity with diagrams very useful. I had never thought about using pictures or diagrams in the course before. The illustrations and explanations gave me the ability to organize claims into a visual drawing. For their example, “All good teachers give fair exams. Professor Z gives fair exams. So professor Z is a good teacher,” I was able to understand why “good teachers” circle belongs inside the “teachers who give fair exams” circle and why “Professor Z” is not a part of both circles, therefore making it weak. This was really helpful because I can learn best if I have a way to visualize and example or work it out on paper. Being able to draw a claim out on paper allows me to do that. I think applying this method to claims can help a lot of people that may struggle just trying to think about a concept without writing it out.

Hi Myclass Online,
ReplyDeleteI also found this section of Chapter 8 to be very useful. I have found over my years in school that I retain information the best if I rewrite it or draw it. Making diagrams to check the validity of an argument allows me to learn the way I learn best, hands on. It really helped me visually see if the object that was really apart of the collection or not/ if there were any similarities before I determining if the argument was weak or strong. However, this concept I found to be a little tricky to master at first, but after practicing with a few different examples it became a lot easier for me.
Good post!
I think that you did a fantastic job at breaking down this section and putting it into an way easier way to understand this specific concept. When I first read this same section I can honestly say that I had a hard time understanding everything that they were trying to say. But after reading your blog and the way you broke it down made it way easier for me to follow what the book was trying to state. You organized your blog in a way that it made it simple and easy to follow the way you broke down the concept. After reading the way you interpreted it I found myself being able to correctly understand what the section was stating. So thanks a lot! Lol good job!
ReplyDeleteThe blog that you did for validity with diagrams using the illustrations and explanation was very good. For me to be able to read it and to have to drawn out makes it easier to understand. It separates everything out to become better visual instead of seeing all these words jumble together. This concept when reading it at first was a little hard for me to understand. The way that you laid put the information down and then used the example helped me a lot. After reading the information again and your blog to made to easier to understand what they were trying to do. I then tried to for myself using the explanation that you gave and it made total sense. I’m a very visual person and it’s easier for me to understand concept if I can see it being down or if it’s laid out in a way that it’s easy to see.
